Though the District Head quarters are Koraput, Jeypore is the nerve centre of the District. It is the biggest civil town in the whole of this southern region of the state. In the heart (centre) of the area Jeypore is the centre of trade, commerce, education, health and civic amenities in the region. Being at the border of the State of A P and ChhatishGarh, it has a good population of this border states and a unique multi lingual and multicultural atmosphere. Once ruled by the King Vikram Deb Verma, a benevolent, philosopher, educationist and poet well known , as the ‘Rajershi' , Jeypore was a small state that boasted of many glories in its past.
